BCM659 - Rockslide megabattle, another three plays

(7:47) Level 2 ('Halo') on Heroic. Concluding this sequence of battle movies using the set-up seen created in BCM653, here are three more plays. First a top pass defence, then some bottleneck fun fought solo (I don't have an actual battle plan article for that one; there are multiple bottlenecks where you might do something similar), then another lifeboat corner defence, the new plan I introduced in BCM655.

Released July 18th 2026, gameplay recorded July 14th-16th 2026.

Commentary

00:02 (Play 1 - Top pass defence) This play is actually a late replacement for an earlier one I had in place, in which I'd had chain-gun support. That had made things a bit easy (and it was also annoying that Johnson had stolen some of my imminent kills) so I did some new playing without such aid, hoping for a more intense battle. This one turned out nicely, and both of my Marines managed to survive.

A highlight comes when a blue Elite gets blown away by the detonation of some loose plasmas, around 1:02. I'd noticed his blue buddy dropping those a few seconds earlier, and had immediately thought there was potential there.

02:12 (Play 2 - Some bottleneck fun) For a change here's some mischievous solo work, using a particularly good bottleneck. Most of the covies obligingly approach from the desired direction, falling into the trap so to speak, but I do have to fend off rear attacks a few times.

Incidentally, there were actually twp stragglers I found shortly afterwards, namely a Grunt and Jackal who failed to turn up. Looked like they'd latched onto the Marines in the entry passage. That happened sometimes, with some of the plays I did for this slot.

05:37 (Play 3 - Lifeboat corner defence) I had a lot of fun with this new battle plan, so I wanted to include another example in the movie sequence. My armoured Marine ends up going on a rampage and getting himself killed, but Johnson lives to fight another day. Nice Elite tag along the way, around 6:36.

Closing remarks This sequence of battle movies went on a few movies longer than I'd anticipated, and basically turned into quite a showcasing of the megabattle's potential, taking in many of my battle plans. Sixteen battles in all, mostly showing different plans, including a few new ones. Did a lot of playing, to try and get good memorable action. Definitely pleased with the result.
