BCM540 - Light-bridge area descent, second ramp and stunt work

(6:56) Level 2 ('Halo') on Heroic. In this second instalment on light-bridge area descent I focus on using the second ramp (across the bridge), using a highly convenient set-up in which the hog is already lined up. As well as standard descents I also show some stunt descents! And incidentally, I've now also posted an article on the topic: see Light-bridge area descent in my level 2 fun section.

Released January 8th 2025, gameplay recorded January 5th-6th 2025.

Commentary

00:02 (Setting up and initial failure) I didn't need to show bridge activation of course, as we're all familiar with that. But showing this fast way of doing it provided some amusing opening action at the cost of little more than 45 seconds, so I decided to include it. Besides which, some folk might not know that sneaky way of doing things. Notice that I had the plasma pistol ready to stun any Elite guard who might attack me after I'd used the panel. Actually though, those guys often fixate on the Marines down below.

In this set-up, I'm almost perfectly lined up at the checkpoint. I'm not quite square-on, but if you want to have that, you'll probably have to make multiple tries. You have only a short time to get into position, so you have to handle the last few seconds of driving well. Actually I did make multiple tries, and obtained a more perfect line-up than seen here, but I liked this one better. It had more chain-gun action for one thing.

01:47 (Five descents) Here now are five descents, with varied camera work. The third one (2:19) is unusual in that the hog hits the strip pointing somewhat downwards. But it gripped anyway.

03:12 (Checking out the bridge) After that last descent, I go on to show the bridge; and as you can see, the plasma pistol has enough range to hit it. Only just though.

03:53 (Going way left or right) I had the idea of trying to go way to the left or right of the strip, to see what I could do. Here's a successful example of each; and I went about as wide as I could go without dying before impact. The one to the right (4:10) has an amusing and freaky tumble finish, which is the first time I've had such a thing. Both Marines survived.

04:27 (Edge rolls) Here's something else new. I tried rolling off the edges of the platform, and managed a few descents that way. Quite hard though. For the right hand side, which took more perseverance, I've included an amusing failure (4:42). Painful hit! Of course, I was having plenty of failures while making the movie. But I showed a good number of those in the previous movie, so here I've focused on successes.

05:23 (Grenade stunt finale) I'd wondered about doing something with grenades, and now with this movie I finally gave it some attention. Here you see some of the results, all involving somersaulting. The first is a single flip but the rest are doubles, and I was pleased to find that I could do a short run-up version, which I think is actually quite a good way down. Very rapid descent, that last one! Unfortunately the seated Marine didn't fare too well with these descents. Having no armour, he was relatively weak.

For the high grenade throw (5:49) I'd learnt a suitable elevation aim involving the position of a ceiling feature relative to my pistol reticle. But it wasn't very easy to see (a dividing line in the darkness). In retrospect I could've instead used the positioning of the boarding prompt relative to the ceiling strip-lights. Notice how the prompt was just above one of the lights when my aim was right.

Closing remarks Don't go away! A new idea came to mind in the course of making the movie, so I now anticipate a third instalment on this topic.
