BCM529 - Dropship Ghost teleport trick, further aspects

(6:56) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Heroic and Legendary. My last movie covered the basics of the dropship Ghost teleport trick, but there were further aspects I couldn't squeeze in. So here's part two!

Released November 30th 2024, gameplay recorded November 20th-28th 2024.

Commentary

00:02 (Camera catch-up) This phenomenon is something I'd originally been trying to cover in the previous movie. But as that movie filled out, I realised I wouldn't have room, so I cut the topic to save it for this sequel. That's also allowed me to give it fuller coverage, such as including a slo-mo replay of the initial example.

01:49 (Camera bounce) Here's another bit of camera oddness you can get when bailing at the right time. The camera initially goes with you, but then whizzes away before bouncing back.

02:21 (Needle fun) In the first example here of a needle bang at the ship, I also happen to catch a Jackal spawning. After a failure then another success, my coverage switches to Legendary (3:13), on which you tend to get way more needles heading your way. On one of my successes incidentally, there's a brief view of the minor covies in the left compartment. That's at about 3:53, if you care to freeze the movie at the right place.

04:12 (Jackal close-ups play) As mentioned in my article, on Legendary you can get excellent close-ups of the Jackals riding second from front. That's my focus here, initially with this play. I actually made quite a lot of attempts at this, i.e. getting close-ups then battling the covies after the drop. But the four Jackals are murder and I got killed rather often. On this play though, I managed to prevail quite nicely, and even got a picturesque Grunt launch as a bonus.

Incidentally, at 4:22 you might wonder why that red Elite is just standing there. Well, he was heading for the corner Ghost I'd moved earlier (using it for transport), but apparently the dropship Ghosts blocked him and he couldn't find his way around, so he just stood there. I might have some fun with that sometime.

05:30 (Close-ups montage) Now here's a montage to give the Jackal close-ups a more extensive showing. For this I was using a modified set-up to get candidate clips efficiently. You can see the approximate starting position of my Ghost in the opening clip. Each time, all I had to do was settle my viewing aim and move the Ghost a short way up the tunnel to teleport.

From the resulting collection of clips I put together some of the best, featuring a good variety of Grunt lines and Jackal sounds. As you can see, the first and third clips actually catch the subject spawning. For some reason I never got a blue-shielded Jackal on the right. Kept trying, and eventually gave up. But I got them on the left at least, with and without a helmet.

06:30 (One last trip) I almost ended the movie with those Jackal close-ups, but then I remembered an idea I had, of teleporting after some sort of Ghost launch. Might look amusing I thought. So I ended up adding this last clip, done on Heroic. It's not a very spectacular launch, but the plasma blast was at least enough to send the Ghost into a slow tumble, so it's far from level when I teleport. Once at the ship, I use the rocket launcher to finish with a bang.

It was actually quite hard to get satisfactory clips like this. The most taxing issue I had was that when the plasma bounced off the ceiling, it very often detonated in mid-air, so I was generally having to make a lot of throws before getting a 'good' one. Another issue was the obvious one of getting the timing right, so the Ghost would go into some sort of tumble. The next problem was that when I arrived at the ship, there was often a disappointing lack of grunty reaction, which made things feel unacceptably flat. I wanted a good sense of covie participation. Also, when suiciding I wanted a good strong death cry; but more often than not, it was lacking. With all these hurdles and more, I only ended up getting two acceptable clips out of a great many tries. Still, at least I got this good one.

Closing remarks Okay, I think that'll do it for the dropship teleporting business. Quite pleased with that sequel. Especially the Jackal montage.
