Commentary
00:02 (Grunty's bad day) At the start of this dustbowl megabattle I deliberately brush against a Grunt. That gives away my position and a storm of fire is unleashed; but I've moved clear and the Grunt catches most of it, to comic effect. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM78. Level 3, Normal.
00:15 (Bouncy landing) Doing a bit of playing around with three Wraiths on Heroic, I drive off the Shade hill in a Ghost and get an impressive bounce off one of them. I narrowly miss getting hit by a plasma ball from another, and then when I'm down, my landing Wraith fortunately blocks a shot from the third. Phew! I'm outta here! August 2013 footage from shortly before recording for BCM80. Level 5, Heroic.
00:32 (Frustrated Hunter) At the end of a cavern megabattle, I found this Hunter on a pipe. Probably I made him go off the edge by dodging a swipe, and didn't realize he'd landed there, until alerted by Marine fire. When I go over for a look, he jumps up and manages to whack me, which was a surprise - and not particularly welcome as I'm on only one health bar. I dodge his next two swipes though, and on the second one he loses his footing. June 2012 footage. Level 5, Normal.
00:52 (Hog comin' through) Nice jump while joyriding around the tower with Johnson & co. I go for the narrow gap between the tower and a rock, and a Grunt gets amusingly squished. November 2012 footage from when I was recording for BCM58. Level 5, Legendary.
01:03 (Needler test) Dustbowl megabattle again. After whacking an Elite and bumping into a Grunt, the covies let off a few shots. Just when it seems to've quieted down, a red Elite fires a hefty stream of needles straight into a Jackal, hilariously killing both the Jackal and two blue Elites! I like to imagine that the red was just testing his needler on a live target; and hey, that Jackal was standing conveniently close. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM79. Level 3, Normal.
01:24 (Frag surprise) After a failed Banshee-assisted stunt in which I got ejected from the hog, a Banshee comes in for an attack, but meets up with a frag explosion on the mound. February 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM66. Level 2, Legendary.
01:36 (Timely warning) In the two-Wraith area I speed up the Shade hill in a hog. A voice on the intercom warns "Watch out for those tanks" just as we reach the edge, and it turns out to be a timely warning. A Wraith blast sends us into a rather nice somersault, and the hog lands on its wheels. August 2013 footage from when I was doing something relating to my Three Wraiths article. Level 5, Normal.
01:54 (Wort wort wort boom) On my way up to the surface, I tag the gold Elite and leap over him, and as I continue on my way, I turn briefly to watch the bang. I attempted a similar tag 'n jump at the end of the kill 'em all speed run shown in KSR2, but messed up the jump a bit. This is a nicer example - plus I've turned around to see the bang. August 2013 footage. Level 4, Heroic or Legendary.
02:05 (And again please - it's fun!) After that somersault shown in the 'Timely warning' clip, I was playing some more and got blasted into a somersault again. Good fun! August 2013 footage from when I was doing something relating to my Three Wraiths article. Level 5, Normal.
02:20 (Incoming Grunt) Something amusing in a Grunts-only dustbowl megabattle. A grenade sends a red Grunt back from whence he came, and a yellow Grunt looks for all the world like he dives to avoid the incoming body, which made me laugh. In reality it was my grenade throw which prompted the dive. As far as the game goes, I'm pretty sure he doesn't even see the body. October 2012 footage from when I was recording for BCM55. Level 3, Normal.
02:34 (Observant guard) While attempting a Legendary kill 'em all run with no vehicles and AR-only (yikes!), I came across this Jackal with his head deep in the scenery. I'm pretty sure he must've got there by diving to get clear of a grenade. It was too amusing a sight to let pass, so I stopped my run to get some potential movie footage. Took him a long time to spot me, but he managed it in the end! June 2013 footage. Level 5, Legendary.
03:13 (Grunty dare) While still cloaked at the start of a dustbowl megabattle, I smack a Grunt in the face, eliciting the comical line "Do that again, ooh I dare ya!" And naturally I accept the challenge. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM79. Level 3, Normal.
03:32 (Welcome to the party) I'm deliberately standing back from the Marines here, to let them get killed off. One gets tagged and arcs across to me, which is the reason for the clip. It just looked amusing. The other two Marines get blasted too though, right afterwards. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM80. Level 5, Legendary.
03:44 (Clumsy Hunter) I bypassed these Hunters when entering the main facility, and they were still around to greet my return. I find the hog in an unusual position, which I expect was due to a Hunter blast when I was doing the bypassing. Anyway, a Hunter takes a swipe at me but dislodges the hog, which then falls on him, ha ha. I subsequently dispatched the other Hunter with a bullet to the back (not shown). August 2013 footage. Level 4, Heroic or Legendary.
04:02 (Wipeout) Circuiting the Shade plateau, a Ghost gets overturned by a Wraith blast, and the pilot gets splattered by the hog the moment he pops out. The hog overturns though. I quickly switch to the launcher to take out the second Ghost, but get blasted as soon as the shot is away. Dang! Got the Ghost though. November 2012 footage from when I was recording for BCM58. Level 5, Legendary.
04:20 (Confused Grunt) This Grunt seems to get a little confused or disoriented, as he ends up throwing a plasma out towards his buddies, which was quite handy for me. I feel bad about needling him now; maybe he wanted to switch sides! This guy makes me wish H1 had included a 'Grunty Support' skull which would give you an indestructible Grunt who follows you around lobbing plasmas at the opposition, and doing some needling too. Now that would be fun! More fun than that Arbiter goon ever was, in H3. September 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM82. Level 3, Normal.
04:34 (Panic relay) Just a cute bit of comedy here, as each of three Grunts panics before being killed. Kind of like a panic relay. Also I like how the final Grunt's needler pops out of his hand and a last needle expires. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM52. Level 2, Heroic.
04:47 (Drama queen) I stun the red Elite with a plasma ball and whack him dead, and he gives an elaborately long death cry. What a drama queen eh? February 2011 footage from when I was recording for BCM29. Level 5, Heroic.
04:56 (Grunt bomb) When I double tag the first of the two platform Grunts, the first bang sends him over to his buddy, who's then taken out by the second bang. Amusing, but not what I wanted. I merely wanted to kill off the first guy, to then get the other going grenade crazy. August 2011 footage from when I was recording for BCM38. Level 5, Legendary.
05:05 (No needling today please) After ejecting this crazy-firing Grunt from his Shade, he ends up on the barrel. When I stand back, I notice the invitation "Press X to flip gun turret", and give it a go, with comically favourable outcome. February 2012 footage from when I was recording for BCM46. Level 5, Heroic.
Closing remarks I know it's not long since the last dose of freakiness and fun in BCM76, but I had such a lot of clips piling up, there was no reason to delay instalment number four. So here you go! I've been spending quite a bit of time on the dustbowl megabattle lately, so it seemed appropriate to start the movie with that amusing friendly fire incident.
