BCM343 - Freakiness and fun, assorted clips

(5:32) Various levels and difficulties. My 27th 'freakiness and fun' compilation shows 15 freaky or amusing incidents, most of which occurred while recording footage for my usual movies - so you may recognize some of the situations.

Released March 30th 2019, gameplay recorded 2013-2019.

Commentary

00:02 (Higher ground) When playing 'Shark' in clip style, you can potentially nudge a Grunt or Jackal off the edge if you work carefully. When trying that with this Grunt, he ends up getting spooked and diving clear, and he reaches an unusual spot. I've never seen a Grunt up there before! I subsequently pay him a visit on foot. February 2019 footage. Level 5, Heroic.

00:32 (Phasing trick) As seen here, a Banshee can actually phase through a falling Wraith if you've got enough speed. I discovered this while trying to aggressively bounce the Wraith. You get a bit of vibration feedback as you go through. February 2018 footage from when I was recording for BCM276. Level 5, Heroic.

00:58 (Hill flight) A while after doing my movies about launching up to the top of the tower (the last being BCM325), I had a go at getting onto a nearby hill. I'm not sure if I'll get around to doing a movie on that, but here's an example ascent in case I don't. Once up, I get frozen when the beam fires. Drat! I'd been wondering if the hill was low enough that I wouldn't get frozen. December 2018 footage. Level 2, Legendary.

01:20 (Tail embedding) There was a clip in BCM224 where I did something similar to this, captioning it 'Up-ending trick'. In this example though, the Banshee ends up embedded in the ring by the tail, rather than being above it. March 2017 footage from when I was recording for BCM224. Level 5, Heroic.

01:43 (Turret trap) At the end of a cavern megabattle I found this Elite trapped by a Shade, and had a bit of fun with him. March 2019 footage from when I was recording for BCM339. Level 5, Heroic.

02:02 (Angry Stacker) In the course of building a frag pile with which to launch a Ghost up to the bridge, I kill one Marine too many for Stacker's liking and become public enemy number one. When I try to take cover at the front of the hog, it's no good. He kills me and delivers a funny line: "Well, on to plan B!" June 2017 footage from when I was recording for BCM248. Level 5, Legendary I think.

02:30 (Edged off) Here's another time I was trying to nudge a Grunt off the bridge. He finally goes off and is briefly supported by my Banshee before he gets spooked and dives. I manage to kill him with a fuel rod hit as he falls. January 2019 footage from when I was recording for BCM330. Level 5, Heroic.

02:52 (Silent separation) Just as these merged crewmen reach a beam, they silently separate. The separation was because of a plasma grenade going off (I'd tagged one of them), but oddly there's no sound. June 2018 footage from when I was recording for BCM290. Level 2, Heroic.

03:10 (Roto-kill) Oldest clip in the movie. It was obtained when seeing if I could get a Banshee pilot ejected to take part in a spiral path megabattle. I forget the details, but anyway, the Banshee starts circling trying to get me, and it's pretty easy to sync my Ghost's rotation with it. After a while I start shooting, and soon it's toast. March 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM70. Level 5, Heroic.

03:31 (Head over wheels) After driving off the hump, a fuel rod strike sends the Banshee into a somersault but it lands the right way up and we continue on our way. There was a similar fuel rod hit in BCM218 except the hog landed upside-down that time, which got me killed. September 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM157. Level 2, Legendary.

03:43 (Plasma duel) Dismounting from my Banshee, I throw a plasma at a Grunt just as he throws his own. Bad news for both of us! February 2019 footage from when I was recording for BCM333. Level 5, Heroic.

03:58 (Anyone see anything?) With one of my spiral path megabattle saves, I found that if I quickly proceeded to trigger an underpass guard and then further covies, the covies would be mostly oblivious to myself and the Marines, at least for a while. Here's an old clip which I've made a bit of comedy out of. The phenomenon is due to the game being overloaded I assume (note the low frame-rate). It's similar to the effect you can get with the Grunt-Jackal spawning trick in level 3, when the covie count is high enough. January 2015 footage. Level 5, Heroic.

04:14 (Fly-by bye-bye) After the Banshee goes overhead I throw a plasma which tags the pilot. He bails and gets killed by my rocket, then the grenade goes off and detonates two that got dropped. I forget how many tries it took to pull this off, but quite a few I think. I had to learn the right aim and timing for the plasma throw, and the rocketing wasn't easy either. November 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM163. Level 10, Easy.

04:32 (Ghost overboard) After launching a Ghost onto the bridge, it ends up getting manned by the gold Elite. He has no driving ability though; he can only rotate and shoot (same as the other bridge Elite). After blasting a Jackal, I circle back and shunt the Ghost off, then blast it spectacularly. March 2019 footage. Level 5, Easy.

04:54 (Tasty meal) I got an amusing situation here, with an Elite having his Shade nibbled; or that's what it looks like at least. How did it arise? The Shade was blasted down, and later I threw grenades to spook the Elite into diving off, so he'd go and man it. I was specifically trying to engineer this, having noticed a similar situation with a red Elite on an earlier play. October 2014 footage from the day after releasing BCM118. Level 9, Normal.

Closing remarks Lately I've been trawling through some long-standing reserves of footage to consider what to do with it, and that provided an influx for my 'freakiness and fun' movies. Together with what I already had waiting, there was plenty enough for another compilation, so here we are. Pretty good batch I think! And hey, I only died twice this time. Is that a record?
